Duette-Honeycomb-ShadesIf you live in an area around DC or Arlington VA where homes are really close together, you probably are interested in window treatments that help you maintain your privacy. Privacy is definitely one of the main functions of window coverings, and how much you need is often dependent on your particular home, directions your windows face, and your own preferences. Here at Value Blinds, we offer a wide variety of window treatments and installation options that give you privacy without completely blocking your source of natural light.

Blinds or Shades for Privacy?

Blinds have slats that can be tilted to varying degrees, and shades are made of solid fabric. Any of our many window blind styles, including wood blinds or faux wood blinds, will give you the ability to tilt the slats so that no one can see in, but you can still let some light into the room. Shades, on the other hand, are either up, down, or somewhere in between if you have the top down/bottom up style.

Blackout Shades for Total Privacy

For absolute privacy and and room-darkening, choose blackout shades. Many of our window covering styles are available in blackout fabric. We also offer dual-shade options, where you can put a room-darkening roller shade toward the window and a sheer shade facing the room, each operating separately on the same cassette. With semi-opaque shades like a woven woods, add an optional privacy liner. Some shades like roman shades have inherent light gaps at the sides, so if that is a concern, you may want to have yours installed with an outside mount that completely covers your window opening.

Top-Down-Bottom Up Installation

This innovative window treatment style allows you to open your shades from either the top or the bottom. Especially good for windows that are taller than they are wide, this allows you to let in light from the top of your window while completely blocking the bottom part of the window. Top-down-bottom-up shades are great for behind bathtubs and in bedrooms. Use this style with most any type of honeycomb shades, roman shades, pleated shades, and woven wood shades.

Custom Drapery for Added Privacy

Custom designed drapery not only adds a personalized touch of style to your room, it can also provide privacy. Add drapery to existing blinds and shades for more privacy when you need it, or add drapery panels to your window coverings to block light and provide privacy at the sides of your windows. We offer a wide variety of fabrics, patterns and styles to help you create beautiful custom drapery.
